The folks at Criterion have released a brand new video showing writer/director/producer Sean Baker visiting their office and picking up some of his favorite films from the now rather famous DVD/Blu-ray closet.
With his last four features, director Sean Baker has proven himself to be one of the most interesting new voices working in American independent cinema. With his latest film Tangerine, Baker has made his most vibrant and critically-acclaimed film yet. Starring the dynamic newcomers Mya Taylor (who recently won the Gotham Award for Breakthrough Actor) and Kitana Kiki Rodriguez, the film follows a day in the life and drama of two transexual sex workers on the streets of Los Angeles over Christmas Eve. Remarkably shot on an iPhone 5s, the screwball revenge comedy meets moving portrait of female friendship is also now making Hollywood history. Rodriguez and Taylor have both launched Oscar campaigns—for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress—making the film's distributor the first ever to back an award season campaign for a transgender actress.
Tangerine is already available on Blu-ray courtesy of Magnolia Home Entertainment. Click on the link to see our listing and review of this release.
