Blu-ray Sales, Nov. 7-15: Terminator Battles Inside Out

For the week that ended on November 15th, Paramount Home Media Distribution's Terminator: Genisys debuted at the top of the Blu-ray-only sales lists. The latest installment in the iconic Terminator franchise, Genisys struggled to connect with many audiences this summer. This sci-fi adventure garnered poor critical notices (the film has a 38% score on Metacritic), and it only grossed $89 million domestically on top of its estimated $155-million production budget; that said, the picture's international grosses were much stronger, as evinced by its $350-million foreign haul. This week, Genisys had a strong Blu-ray market share of 64%. On the overall package-media list, the film came in second place, where it sold 74% as many total units as Pixar and Disney's Inside Out.

Next up on the Blu-ray-only ranking was, in fact, Inside Out. Pixar's whimsical animated comedy about the emotions that govern the mind of a young girl proved one of this summer's most enduring favorites; critics rapturously embraced the film (to the tune of a 94% score on Metacritic), and audiences responded strongly as well, given Inside Out's worldwide gross of $855 million. On the Blu-ray-only list, Inside Out had a Blu-ray market share of 47% and sold 99% as many Blu-rays as Genisys, and - again - it took the top spot on the overall package-media chart.

Finally, Universal Studios Home Entertainment's Trainwreck rounded out the top three spots on the Blu-ray-only sales list. This Amy Schumer-starring romantic comedy was a nice success for its distributor last July. It won solid critical notices (it has a Metacritic score of 75%), and it also grossed $110 million domestically on top of its projected $35-million budget. Regarding the Blu-ray-only ranking, Trainwreck sold 42% as many discs as Genisys (and had an HD market share of 46%). In terms of the overall package-media list, the film sold 44% as many total units as Inside Out.
