For the week that ended on September 13th,
Mad Max: Fury Road again remained at the top of the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales lists. Despite enduring pre-production headaches and a grueling production schedule, director George Miller's latest installment in his
Mad Max franchise proved one of Summer 2015's most beloved pictures. The film
grossed over $374 million worldwide on top of its projected $150 million budget, and it performed even better with critics, netting an
89% score on Metacritic. This week,
Fury Road had a Blu-ray market share of 48%.
Next up on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media rankings was Lionsgate Home Entertainment's
The Age of Adaline. This romantic fantasy, which stars Blake Lively as a beguiling woman who magically retains her youth throughout the last century, struggled to connect with audiences and critics last spring; the film grossed a modest
$42 million domestically, and its critical notices aggregated to a
51% score on Metacritic.
The Age of Adaline sold 35% as many Blu-rays as
Fury Road and 58% as many total units, and its Blu-ray market share was 30%.
Finally, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment's
Star Wars: Episodes IV-VI, AKA the Original Trilogy, rounded out the top three spots on the Blu-ray-only list. One of the most iconic series in contemporary film history, this blockbuster sci-fi trilogy experienced a resurgence in sales popularity during the past month;
Star Wars mania is rising again, thanks to programs like the animated
Star Wars Rebels: Complete Season One and the upcoming
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens, and with
director John Landis' recent intimation that Disney plans to re-release the original theatrical cuts of the first three Star Wars pictures ("first three" referring to theatrical release date, of course), the fortunes of George Lucas' hit franchise should only continue to soar. On the Blu-ray-only list, the
Episodes IV-VI package sold 18% as many discs as
Fury Road and had an HD market share of 100%. On the overall package-media chart,
Star Wars came in fourteenth place (DreamWorks Home Entertainment's
Home held the number-three position there) and sold 9% as many total units as
Fury Road.
