Disney will develop a new Mary Poppins musical. According to Variety, which reported the news, Rob Marshall has also agreed to direct it.
John DeLuca and Marc Platt (
Into the Woods) will serve as producers.
According to insiders, the upcoming film will take place 20 years after the original film and will use storylines from the P.L. Travers' children book.
Robert Stevenson directed the original
Mary Poppins film in 1964. The film won five Oscar Awards: Best Actress in a Leading Role (Julie Andrews), Best Film Editing (Cotton Warburton), Best Music, Original Song (Richard M. Sherman, Robert B. Sherman/For the song "Chim Chim Cher-ee"), and Best Music, Substantially Original Score (Richard M. Sherman, Robert B. Sherman).
