The Fallen Idol
Carol Reed's award-winning adaptation of Graham Greene's short story told primarily from a child's perspective. Philippe (Bobby Henrey) is the young son of a diplomat and he idolises Baines (Ralph Richardson), his father's butler. When Baines' wife is found murdered and Baines is implicated, Philippe tries everything to point the investigation away from the butler. In doing so he makes matters worse and also discovers that his hero is not the man he thought he was. Starring Ralph Richardson, Michèle Morgan, Sonia Dresdel, Denis O'Dea, and Jack Hawkins.
STREET DATE: OCTOBER 19.
The Angry Silence
Powerful drama about loyalties and the industrial workplace in early 60s Britain. Factory worker Tom Arnold (Richard Attenborough) does not share the same feelings as his fellow workers in a developing industrial dispute and refuses to go on strike with them. This results in him being 'sent to Coventry' by all concerned, including his best friend Joe Wallace (Michael Craig). The newspapers soon hear about this and the story becomes a matter of national concern, with many different parties trying to use Tom's stance to their own. Starring Richard Attenborough, Pier Angeli, Michael Craig, Bernard Lee, Oliver Reed, and Brian Murray.
STREET DATE: NOVEMBER 2.
The Raging Moon
Romantic drama directed by Bryan Forbes. Bruce (Malcolm McDowell) is a lively young man with an eye for a pretty girl. Returning home slightly the worse for wear from drink after a wedding, he suddenly collapses in the lift of the block of flats in which he lives. When he wakes up in hospital, he finds he is unable to walk, and the doctors cannot diagnose his problem. His family refuse to house him, and Bruce is forced to move to a convalescence home where, having becoming increasingly bitter and depressed about his situation, he strikes up a friendship with fellow inmate Jill (Nanette Newman). Under her influence, he begins to enjoy life again. But can their love survive as they struggle with the prospect of moving out of the home and looking for work? Starring Malcolm McDowell, Nanette Newman, Georgia Brown, and Bernard Lee.
