For the week that ended on July 12th, Warner Home Entertainment's
Get Hard remained at the number-one position on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media charts. Adapted from a story idea by
Anchorman and
Step Brothers filmmaker Adam McKay, director Etan Cohen's raunchy comedy was a modest hit for the studio last March. Despite poor critical support (the film has a
34% rating on Metacritic), it grossed
over $90 million domestically on top of its projected $40-million budget. This week,
Get Hard had a Blu-ray market share of 26%.
Next up on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media rankings was Lionsgate Home Entertainment's
Maggie. The film, a bleak zombie drama starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Abigail Breslin, struggled to make an impression on critics and audiences despite the presence of its
Terminator star in a rare dramatic role. The film currently has a
52% rating on Metacritic, and it only grossed
just over $187,000 domestically. On the Blu-ray-only ranking,
Maggie sold 67% as many Blu-rays as
Get Hard and had an HD market share of 35%. Regarding the overall package-media chart,
Maggie sold 50% as many total units as
Get Hard.
Finally, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment's
Kingsman: The Secret Service rounded out the top three spots on the Blu-ray-only list. Director Matthew Vaughn's violent comic-book adaptation - from
The Secret Service by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons - was a surprise hit for the studio last February; despite middling critical support (the film has a
58% rating on Metacritic), it grossed
over $403 million worldwide on top of its projected $81-million budget. On the Blu-ray-only ranking,
Kingsman sold 42% as many Blu-rays as
Get Hard and had an HD market share of 29%. On the overall package-media chart,
Kingsman came in fifth place - behind, respectively,
Woman in Gold and
Despicable Me 2 - and sold 37% as many total units as the Will Ferrell-Kevin Hart-starring comedy.
