Universal Pictures announced today that director Colin Trevorrow's Jurassic World has become the fastest film to cross the $1 billion mark at the global box office. The film opened in theaters across the world 13 days ago.
The blockbuster also set a global opening record after it became the first film ever to generate more than $500M in a single weekend.
Jurassic World is the second film from Universal Pictures to reach the $1 billion mark in 2015 after James Wan's action thriller Furious 7 did so in April.
Synopsis: Steven Spielberg returns to executive produce the long-awaited next installment of his groundbreaking Jurassic Park series, Jurassic World. Colin Trevorrow directs the epic action-adventure based on the novel "Jurassic Park" by Michael Crichton. The screenplay is by Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver and Trevorrow & Derek Connolly. Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley join the team as producers.
Twenty-two years after the events of Jurassic Park, Isla Nublar now features a fully functioning dinosaur theme park, Jurassic World, as originally envisioned by John Hammond.
