The Cohen Media Group has sent us a brand new trailer for Gaumont's 2K restoration of Maurice Pialat's Palme d'Or winning film Under the Sun of Satan (1987), starring Gérard Depardieu, Sandrine Bonnaire, Maurice Pialat, Yann Dedet, and Alain Artur.
The film is expected to be released on Blu-ray, but at the moment the Cohen Media Group has not revealed a preliminary release date.
Synopsis: Donissan is a self-abasing curate tortured by questions about his role in God's plan — before an encounter with a material Satan touches off a powerful revelation. At the crux of his vision is Mouchette, the madly profligate sylph whose fate ruptures in a blast of gunpowder and the slash of a razor. As events unfurl, the director himself provides witness as Menou-Segrais the seasoned cleric who pronounces the words: "God wears us down."
Note: Last year, the Cohen Media Group acquired the U.S. rights to eight classic films from Gaumont's catalog: Jean-Luc Godard's A Married Woman, Federico Fellini's City of Women, and Pialat's Under the Sun of Satan, Loulou, Van Gogh, The Mouth Agape, Get Your Diploma, and L'Amour Existe (Love Exists).
