As one of the two lossless audio formats approved for use on Blu-ray movies, DTS-HD Master Audio has allowed studios (namely Fox) to pass on audio movie tracks identical to the masters they come from. DTS has now released version 1.5 of their authoring tool, which will allow users to encode secondary audio streams, as well as more easily encode their data when using an Apple platform.
Senior Vice President and General Manager, Consumer Division, Brian Towne, has received positive feedback about DTS-HD MA. "The industry's response to the introduction of the DTS-HD Master Audio Suite last year, was very positive and attests to the superiority of our technology with regards to high definition audio. We expect that the community will be even more supportive of the new features that the DTS-HD MAS V.1.5 offers."
Dolby TrueHD is the rival lossless codec being used by some studios, with the majority opting to use the uncompressed PCM format.
