Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is bringing director Brett Leonard's
Virtuosity (1995) and Tarsem Singh's
The Cell (2000) to Blu-ray. Leonard's sci-fi thriller stars Denzel Washington, Russell Crowe, Kelly Lynch and William Forsythe; Singh's dark psychological thriller stars Jennifer Lopez, Vince Vaughn and Vincent D'Onofrio. Both films make their North American Blu-ray debuts on July 7th.
Virtuosity: The Law Enforcement Technology Advancement Centre (LETAC) has developed SID version 6.7 (Russell Crowe): a Sadistic, Intelligent, and Dangerous virtual reality entity which is synthesized from the personalities of more than 150 serial killers. LETAC would like to train police officers by putting them in VR with SID, but they must prove the concept by using prisoners as test subjects. One such prisoner is ex-cop Parker Barnes (Denzel Washington). When SID manages to inject his personality into a nano-machine android, it appears that Barnes might be the only one who can stop him.
The Blu-ray release of
Virtuosity is presented in 1080p with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround. Warner has yet to detail special features.
The Cell: A shocking, riveting mind trip into the dark and dangerous corridors of a serial killer's psyche; a psyche that holds the key to saving the killer's final, trapped victim who remains alive. Making this journey into the recesses of a killer's nightmarish fantasy world is Catherine Deane (Jennifer Lopez), a psychologist who has been experimenting with a radical new therapy. Through a new transcendental science, Catherine can experience what is happening in another person's unconscious mind.
