Earlier today, EW revealed the first images from director Alejandro González Iñárritu's latest project, The Revenant, starring Leo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy and Will Poulter. The film is set to open in select theaters across the nation on December 25.
Currently, the Oscar-nominated director is shooting The Revenant in a remote part of Calgary, Canada.
The film, which will be distributed by Twentieth Century Fox, is based on Michael Punke's novel The Revenant: A Novel of Revenge about a trapper who goes after the men who robbed him and left him to die after a bear attack. Iñárritu co-wrote the script for the film with Mark L. Smith (The Hole).
Iñárritu's Birdman has been nominated for nine Oscar awards, including Best Motion Picture of the Year, Best Achievement in Directing, Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role (Michael Keaton), and Best Achievement in Cinematography (Emmanuel Lubezki).
