According to Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association (JEITA), shipments of Blu-ray Disc recorders in Japan has, for the first time, broken the 100,000 barrier. In the month of June, approximately 122,000 Blu-ray Disc recorders were sold in Japan, compared to approximately 82,000 the month prior.
June shipments were also three times greater than those just six months prior. Below is a chart with the month-by-month shipments of Blu-ray Disc recorders in Japan:

The increase in sales is attributed to the rising popularity of the Blu-ray format, as well as expected mid-year-bonuses and the upcoming Olympic Games. Currently, there are no stand-alone Blu-ray disc players available in Japan, only recorders.
