For the week that ended on November 2nd, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment's
X-Men: Days of Future Past remained at the top spot on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media rankings. This is the third week in a row that director Bryan Singer's ambitious sci-fi blockbuster - the prequel/sequel to
X-Men: The Last Stand,
The Wolverine, and
X-Men: First Class - has dominated home media, thus adding to the success it found when the picture premiered last May. After receiving positive critical acclaim (it has a
Metacritic score of 74%), the film
grossed over $746 million worldwide on top of its estimated $200-million budget. Last week,
Days of Future Past had a Blu-ray market share of 46%.
Next up on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media charts was Dreamworks'
Mr. Peabody & Sherman. Following its March premiere, this animated comedy struggled to make an impression with viewers. Critics were lukewarm on the film (its
Metacritic score is 59%), and audiences failed to make the film a success in the domestic market, where it grossed only
$111 million on top of its estimated $145-million budget. On the Blu-ray-only ranking,
Mr. Peabody & Sherman sold 50% as many Blu-rays as
Days of Future Past (and garnered an HD market share of 34%). On the overall package-media chart, the film moved 67% as many units as the
X-Men feature.
Finally, Sony Home Entertainment's
Deliver Us from Evil rounded out the top three spots on the Blu-ray-only sales list. This violent horror-thriller was a modest success with audiences last July. Although its critical notices weren't spectacular - it has a
Metacritic score of 40% - the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced venture
grossed over $87 million worldwide on top of a budget of only $30 million. On the Blu-ray-only lists,
Deliver Us from Evil sold 42% as many Blu-rays as
Days of Future Past and had an HD market share of 38%. Regarding its overall package-media figures, the film came in fourth place - behind Dinesh D'Souza and John Sullivan's
America: Imagine the World Without Her - and sold 50% as many total units as Fox's time-traveling adventure.
