British distributors Arrow Films have officially announced that they will release on Blu-ray Gomorrah: The Complete Season One. The release will be available for purchase on October 27th.

Adapted from Robert Saviano's groundbreaking book exposing the inner-workings of the Neapolitan mafia (known as the CAMORRAH), the 12-part television series follows Matteo Garrone's feature film of the same name, which was awarded the prestigious Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival.

Following the book's publication, Saviano was forced into hiding after receiving death-threats from mafia godfathers. He was inspired to write the exposé when his father, a doctor, was attacked for attempting to treat one of the mob's victims.

Now residing in New York, Saviano still requires round-the-clock protection.

Directed by Stefano Sollima (Romanzo Criminale) and shot on location in Naples and Campania, GOMORRAH paints a brutal portrait of Neapolitan crime organisation the Camorra, as seen through the eyes of Ciro Di Marzo, the up-and-coming right hand man of clan godfather, Pietro Savastano.

With Pietro locked up in solitary confinement, and facing an ever-increasing sentence, Ciro is left to do his boss' dirty work, running the empire alongside the dysfunctional Savastano family.

Having already been sold to over 50 territories worldwide (including the US courtesy of The Weinstein Company), GOMORRAH is setting a new benchmark for quality Italian crime drama and taking Saviano's message to entirely new global audience.

Broadcast in the UK on Sky Atlantic, the 12-part series gives the story a luxurious platform for character development and detail.

"My style has always been that of creating a non-fiction novel," Saviano tells the Daily Telegraph, "When I wrote Gomorrah I used real names, and real places. The only difference with the TV series is that you're allowing a degree of narrative space between real facts."

Such is the strength of the Italian crime television movement that Arrow Films have launched Criminale Italia, an exciting new subsidiary of their Nordic Noir label. Alongside GOMORRAH, the label will include the acclaimed Inspector De Luca (as seen on BBC Four), Fog & Crimes and The Octopus.

Note: In 2008, Matteo Garrone's feature-length film Gomorrah won the Grand Prize of the Jury at the Cannes Film Festival and was selected to represent Italy in the Foreign Language Film Category of the 81st Annual Academy Awards.
