For the week that ended on September 7th, Summit and Lionsgate's
Draft Day took the top spot on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales rankings. Director Ivan Reitman's sports-themed dramedy had trouble connecting with audiences when it premiered in April. The film
grossed just under $28 million domestically, and its critical notices weren't much better; on Metacritic,
Draft Day currently has
a 54% rating. Last week,
Draft Day had a Blu-ray market share of 33%.
Next up on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales lists was Sony Home Entertainment's
The Amazing Spider-Man 2. This sequel to
the hit 2011 comic-book actioner struggled somewhat with critics and fans. While its
worldwide gross was over $708 million, it made just under $203 million domestically, with some analysts speculating that the domestic total did not cover the film's production budget. Additionally, critics had less than favorable praise for the film (it currently has a
53% Metacritic rating).
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 sold 90% as many Blu-rays as
Draft Day and had an HD market share of 51%, and on the overall package-media chart, the film sold 57% as many units as the Kevin Costner-starring feature.
Finally, Warner Bros'
Blended rounded out the top three spots on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales lists. The Adam Sandler-and-Drew Barrymore-starring farce did not make near as big an impact as the pair's previous romantic comedies,
The Wedding Singer and
50 First Dates. Last May, the picture barely made
over $46 million domestically (a number just over its projected $40 million production budget), and critics mostly did not care for the film (its
Metacritic score is 31%). On the Blu-ray-only ranking,
Blended sold 55% as many Blu-rays as
Draft Day (and garnered an HD market share of 39%). On the overall package-media chart,
Blended moved almost 46% as many copies as
Draft Day.
