Marvel Entertainment's Guardians of the Galaxy has become the biggest film of the year. According to new studio estimates, James Gunn's blockbuster has grossed $280 million domestically. Market observers also expect the film to easily cross the $300 million mark.
Last month, Guardians of the Galaxy set a new weekend box office record in North America after it generated $94.3 million. The film now has the biggest August debut of all time.
At the global box office, Michael Bay's Transformers: Age Of Extinction remains the biggest film of the year. According to recent reports, the film has generated $1.07bn.
Note: Walt Disney Home Entertainment is yet to officially announce Guardians of the Galaxy for Blu-ray release. Transformers: Age of Extinction will be released on Blu-ray on September 30th.
