The latest addition to Marvel Entertainment's Cinematic Universe, Guardians of the Galaxy has crossed the $500M mark at the global box office. The film is also expected to pass The Lego Movie and Captain America: The Winter Soldier and become the biggest box office hit in North America in 2014.
Earlier this month, Guardians of the Galaxy set a new weekend box office record in North America after it generated $94.3 million. The film now has the biggest August debut of all time.
Marvel and Disney are already working on a sequel, which is expected to open in theaters across the United States on July 28, 2017.
