On August 21-23, the Association of Moving Image Archivists (AMIA) is holding
its technical symposium "The Reel Thing XXXIII" at the Academy's Pickford Center for
Motion Picture Study in Hollywood.
Presenting the latest technologies in audiovisual restoration and preservation, The Reel Thing brings together a unique line up of laboratory technicians, archivists, new media technologists and preservationists. Various technological topics will be covered including Large Format 65mm Scanning and Preservation, Color Spaces, Frame Rates, and Sound. Movie restoration screenings are scheduled, including the world premiere of the 4K restoration of The Day the Earth Stood Still, plus Steven Spielberg's Duel, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari with live music accompaniment and A Fistful of Dollars.
