The British Film Institute announced today that it will release a Dual Format Edition of one of British cinema's most intense sci-fi offerings, Val Guest's
The Day the Earth Caught Fire (1961), starring Edward Judd, Janet Munro, and Leo McKern. The release is scheduled to arrive on the UK market in October.
In August, the newly remastered version of
The Day the Earth Caught Fire will also be screened at the British Museum.
Synopsis: After nuclear tests knock the world off its axis, global temperatures start to rise rapidly. In London - where the heat is such that the Thames is in danger of drying up - Daily Express reporter Peter Stenning (Edward Judd), his colleague Bill Maguire (Leo McKern), and his girlfriend Jeanne Craig (Janet Munro), resolve to get to the bottom of the matter.
