Shane Black, who directed Iron Man 3, is set to write and direct a Predator sequel for Twentieth Century Fox. The upcoming project was initially reported to be a reboot by The Hollywood Reporter, but Black has since clarified that the film will instead be "expanding and exploring the existing Predator mythology, rather than hitting the restart button." The film is being script by Fred Dekker.
The original film was directed by John McTiernan in 1987 and stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers, Bill Duke, Jesse Ventura, Richard Chaves, and Elpidia Carrillo. Black also had a cameo in it.
Stephen Hopkins directed a sequel in 1990.
John Davis, who co-produced the original film with Joel Silver and Lawrence Gordon, will produce the new film. A preliminary release date for the sequel has not yet been revealed.
Black's writing credits include: Lethal Weapon, The Monster Squad, The Last Boy Scout, Last Action Hero, The Long Kiss Goodnight, and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, amongst others.
