George Lucas has selected the city of Chicago as the location for his museum. Chicago won a three-way competition with Los Angeles and San Francisco. The news was reported earlier today by Chicago Sun-Times columnist Michael Sneed, and was later confirmed by Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
The $1 billion project will house Star Wars and Indiana Jones memorabilia, Lucas' large artwork collection, many digital samples of the special effects created for Industrial Light & Magic, and a lot more.
According to early reports, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is expected to open in 2018.
Following the official announcement Lucas said: "I am humbled to be joining such an extraordinary museum community and to be creating the Museum in a city that has a long tradition of embracing the arts and architecture."
