Through June 28th, Amazon is offering Torchwood for $61.99 (a 52% discount from its MSRP of $129.95), Lawrence of Arabia for $43.49 (a 55% discount from its MSRP of $95.99), and The Spectacular Spider-Man for $19.99 (a 57% discount from its MSRP of $45.99).
A spinoff of the iconic Doctor Who program, Torchwood is a provocative sci-fi adventure that focuses on the enigmatic Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) and his team of intergalactic investigators. The series has grown a steady fanbase since its debut; its third season, Torchwood: Children of Earth, even saw the program moving from BBC 3 to the prestigious BBC 1 channel in the UK.
The twelve-disc collection presents the episodes in 1080i encodes with more than 10 hours of bonus features. Note: this set does not contain the series' Starz-aired fourth season, Torchwood: Miracle Day.
Lawrence of Arabia, on the other hand, is one of the most acclaimed motion pictures ever made, winning seven Oscars at the 1963 Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. Director David Lean's epic drama focuses on the military career of T.E. Lawrence (the late, great Peter O'Toole), a lieutenant in the British Army who makes a profound impact on the Arab nations during World War I. Beginning with the motorcycle accident that claimed his life in 1935, Lean's film flashes back, following Lawrence from his initial explorations in and around Cairo through his assault on the Turks in Damascus, an experience that united the region's Arab tribes but left Lawrence cynical and disillusioned.
Sony's Limited Edition boxset offers the 227-minute director's cut (including the overture, intermission, entr'acte and exit music) of the film in its 2.20:1 original aspect ratio with a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track. The print used is courtesy of a 4K digital restoration; according to Sony's official press release, "the original camera negative was scanned at 8K and the film went through a painstaking process of repairing problems inherent to the fifty-year old film elements."
The film also contains numerous bonus supplements, including many specific to this Limited Edition, such as archival interviews with fans of the film, vintage behind-the-scenes featurettes, a never-before-seen deleted scene, and a newly produced Lawrence of Arabia appreciation interview with Martin Scorsese.
Finally, Sony's The Spectacular Spider-Man bundle compiles both seasons of the cult animated program, which ran from 2008 to 2009. Over the course of twenty-six episodes, young Peter Parker faces a rogues' gallery of famous Marvel villains, including The Lizard, Tombstone, The Goblin, The Symbiote, The Master Planner, Venom, and The Gang War.
The twenty-six episodes are in their broadcast aspect ratio of 1.78:1 with 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio tracks and a handful of special features detailing the inspirations behind the program.
These deals expire at 12 AM PST/3 AM EST next Sunday, June 29th.
