For the week that ended on June 15th, Paramount's
Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit took the top spot on the Blu-ray-only chart. The latest reboot of Tom Clancy's CIA analyst character,
Shadow Recruit proved a modest theatrical disappointment for the studio. Besides garnering mediocre critical notices -
a 57% score on Metacritic - the $60-million feature grossed only
$50 million domestically, though it did up that total with an $85-million international haul. Of the total
Shadow Recruit units sold, 57% came from Blu-ray retail alone.
However, just behind
Shadow Recruit on the Blu-ray-only chart was Universal's
Lone Survivor.
Lone Survivor sold 95% as many Blu-rays as
Shadow Recruit, and in terms of overall package-media sales, it was the top seller; on that sales list,
Shadow Recruit actually came in third place and sold 92% as many units as the Peter Berg-directed war drama. Despite generating much controversy among critics - many in the critical community accused the film of jingoism, a condition that may have resulted in its
60% Metacritic score -
Lone Survivor was an unexpected hit with audiences. The modestly budgeted picture (it cost an estimated $40 million) made
$125 million domestically.
Lone Survivor had a Blu-ray market share of 50%.
Finally, Universal's
Non-Stop rounded out the top three spots on the Blu-ray-only sales list. An action-thriller about an escalating ransom situation on an international flight,
Non-Stop continued the action-hero resurgence that Liam Neeson has enjoyed since 2008's
Taken - the estimated
$50-million feature grossed over $198 million worldwide. On the Blu-ray-only list,
Non-Stop sold 78% as many copies as
Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit and had an HD market share of 43%. Regarding the overall package-media list,
Non-Stop came in second place and sold 96% as many total units as
Lone Survivor.
