Pioneer Lowers Blu-ray Drive Prices

Pioneer has recently lowered the price of its BDC-S02BKZ Blu-ray combo drive by over 40% in China. Now priced at approximately $145 USD, Pioneer is hoping that more computer manufacturers will use the drives when building PCs. The expectation is that, as the Olympics near, consumer interest in high definition content will sky-rocket, Blu-ray along with it.
They are also expecting to drop the price of the BDC-S02 combo drive in Taiwan to around $230 USD and include a free Blu-ray movie.
These price reductions are also expected to force other Blu-ray drive manufacturers to dramatically lower their prices. Many industry insiders point to the upcoming third and forth quarters of the year to be very important to Blu-ray adoption.
