Oscar winning director Oliver Stone is set to direct a new film based on journalist Luke Harding's book The Snowden Files: The Inside Story Of The World's Most Wanted Man. Stone has already started writing the script for the film, which will be a European co-production and will begin shooting later this year.
It was Guardian journalist Glenn Greenwald who broke the story of government surveillance in June 2013.
In a statement, Stone said: "This is one of the greatest stories of our time. A real challenge. I'm glad to have the Guardian working with us."
Greenwald's novel No Place To Hide is now also adapted by James Bond producers Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli for a new film that will focus on the information leaked by NSA contractor Edward Snowden.
