After revealing the film's main cast in late April, Disney and director J.J. Abrams have have announced two additional cast members are joining Star Wars: Episode VII: Lupita Nyong'o (12 Years a Slave) and Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones). The new Star Wars sequel is due in theaters on December 18, 2015.
Lupita Nyong'o breakthrough performance in 12 Years a Slave earned her an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Gwendoline Christie currently stars in the hit television series Game of Thrones as Brienne of Tarth and can next be seen in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2.
The film's cast includes John Boyega (Attack the Block), Daisy Ridley (Mr. Selfridge), Adam Driver (Girls), Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis), Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings), Domhnall Gleeson (About Time) and Max von Sydow (The Exorcist), who will join the original stars of the saga -- Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker -- in the film.
"We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII," Abrams said in April. "It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again." Adding, "everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud."
