Earlier today, multiple sources (including Variety) confirmed Josh Brolin has been cast as Avengers villain Thanos. The actor is reportedly set to appear both in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy this August and, in some capacity, Joss Whedon's Avengers: Age of Ultron in May 2015, as well as future Marvel films. Disney and Marvel Studios have yet to make a formal announcement, but a press release is expected soon.
Guardians of the Galaxy is an epic space adventure that expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan (Lee Pace), a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits: Rocket (Bradley Cooper), a gun-toting raccoon; Groot (Vin Diesel), a tree-like humanoid; the deadly and enigmatic Gamora (Zoe Saldana); and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista). But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand--with the galaxy's fate in the balance.
An official plot synopsis is still MIA for Avengers: Age of Ultron, which stars Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Aaron Taylor Johnson, Samuel L. Jackson, Paul Bettany and James Spader.
