X-Men: Days of Future Past is projected to be the fifth best Memorial Day holiday weekend debut in box office history over a four-day period. According to reports released on Monday, the seventh installment in the X-Men franchise has already earned $111 million.
Spencer Klein, senior vice president general sales manager for Fox, commented: "We were hoping to get a $100 million in four days and we hoped to broaden the movie out to a more general audience, which has come to fruition from a gender standpoint, age standpoint and race standpoint."
Globally, X-Men: Days of Future Past has already earned $282 million. Approximately $171 million were generated from screenings in 119 countries around the world.
Brett Ratner's X-Men: The Last Stand remains the top grossing opener in the franchise. In 2006, the film generated $123 million when it debuted over the Memorial holiday.
Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment has not yet officially announced and detailed its upcoming Blu-ray release of Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014), but fans of the film can already place their pre-orders at Amazon.
Currently, there are three different releases available for pre-order: standard edition, Deluxe 3D edition, and Amazon Exclusive 3D edition.
