For the week that ended on May 18th, Lionsgate's I, Frankenstein unseated Frozen from the top spot on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media charts. This action-horror hybrid - an adaptation of Kevin Grevioux's graphic novel - was a critical and commercial flop last January; the estimated $65-million feature only grossed $71 million worldwide, and critics did not respond any more favorably to the picture (its Metacritic score is 30%). During its first week on home media, I, Frankenstein had a Blu-ray market share of 38%.

Next up on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales rankings was Disney's Frozen - prior to this shift, the film had been at number one for seven weeks. This year's Academy Award-winner for Best Animated Feature won Disney much acclaim last year; besides solid critical notices (a 74% score on Metacritic), Frozen grossed over $1 billion worldwide on top of its estimated $150 million production budget. Frozen, which had a Blu-ray market share of 30%, sold 69% as many Blu-rays as I, Frankenstein and 87% as many total units.

Finally, Warner and New Line's The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug rounded out the top three spots on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales lists. Like its predecessor, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, The Desolation of Smaug was a major box-office success - The Desolation of Smaug grossed over $952 million worldwide. On the Blu-ray-only list, it sold 46% as many discs as I, Frankenstein and had a Blu-ray market share of 53%. On the overall package media list, the film sold 33% as many total units as I, Frankenstein.
