Jason Voorhees is heading back to the small screen. According to early reports, the iconic character will appear in a brand new TV show which is being planned in addition to the upcoming 13th entry in the big screen franchisee set to arrive in U.S. theaters on March 13, 2015.
According to Deadline, which broke the news, Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films and Crystal Lake Entertainment will produce the upcoming TV series.
Bill Basso (The Terminator) and Jordu Schell (Avatar) are set to write the script for the new project, while Roy Knyrim (Forget Me Not) will be in charge with the special effects.
Sean S. Cunningham, director of the original film and executive producer on the new series, said: "Jason Voorhees is synonymous with the genre, and we plan to build on this legacy with a provocative and compelling take that expands upon the storylines that have already thrilled millions worldwide."
Producer Robert Barsamian also added: "Expect the show to take viewers in some exciting new directions that we're confident will not only excite existing fans of 'Friday The 13th' but also attract new audiences to the situations and characters that inhabit the small town of Crystal Lake."
