Roberto Orci, one of the two creative minds behind such Hollywood blockbusters as Transformers (2007) and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009), has expressed interest in directing the next Star Trek film. Orci is already set to write the script for the upcoming film with Patrick McKay and John D. Payne.
According to Variety, which broke the news, Orci has been lobbying heavily to direct the production, and its co-producers, J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot and David Ellison's Skydance are in favor of him stepping behind the camera.
Together with Alex Kurtzman, Orci has also been working on the next two Spider-Man films.
In 2016, the Star Trek franchise will be celebrating its 50th anniversary.
