Syfy has ordered a 12-episode show based on Terry Gilliam's 1995 film
12 Monkeys. The pilot for the show, which is set to premiere in January 2015, was completed last year.
The upcoming show will be written by Terry Matalas (
Star Trek: Enterprise) and Travis Fickett (
Nikita). It will be produced by Universal Cable Prods. and Atlas Entertainment.
Starring Aaron Stanford (
Nikita), Amanda Schull (
Pretty Little Liars), Noah Bean (
Damages), and Kirk Acevedo (
Fringe),
12 Monkeys follows the story of a time traveler (Aaron Stanford) from the post-apocalyptic future, who arrives in the present day to track down the source of a deadly plague.
Following the official announcement Syfy President David Howe said: "12 Monkeys is a captivating time travel adventure and high stakes race against the clock. We are thrilled to add it to our slate of engaging and thought-provoking new scripted projects including the recently announced event series Ascension and the second season renewal of Helix from Ron Moore."
