For the week that ended on March 30th, Disney Home Entertainment's
Frozen once again took the top spot on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media charts. This year's Academy Award-winner for Best Animated Feature,
Frozen won Disney much acclaim last year. Besides solid critical notices (on Metacritic, the film has a
74% score),
Frozen grossed over $1 billion worldwide on top of its estimated $150 million production budget. Furthermore, it's already setting records on the small screen; as
Blu-ray.com reported last Monday, the title sold 3.2 million discs in its first day of home-media release, helping to make it Disney's best-selling kids' movie of all time on Blu-ray. This week,
Frozen had a Blu-ray market share of 45%.
Next up on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales rankings was Paramount's release of
The Wolf of Wall Street. Martin Scorsese's dark corporate satire was one of the director's biggest commercial successes; the film
grossed almost $400 million worldwide and was a critical hit as well, becoming the recipient of five Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Actor.
The Wolf of Wall Street sold 39% as many Blu-rays as
Frozen, though it did have a higher HD market share of 54%. On the overall package media list, the film sold 32% as many total units as the animated hit.
Finally, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment's
Walking with Dinosaurs: The Movie rounded out the top three spots on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media charts. The family-friendly, part-fiction/part-documentary feature - the big-screen iteration of the BBC's popular
Walking with Dinosaurs series - was a modest success for the studio,
grossing $126 million worldwide on top of its $80 million budget. On the Blu-ray-only list,
Walking with Dinosaurs sold 11% as many copies as
Frozen and had a 35% HD market share; regarding the overall package-media chart, the film sold 15% as many units as the Disney picture.
