Martial arts superstar Donnie Yen (
Ip Man) has signed a deal to appear in acclaimed helmer Yuen Wo Ping's (
Iron Monkey,
The Magnificent Butcher) highly anticipated
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon II, which will be financed by The Weinstein Company. The deal was officially announced earlier today.
Michelle Yeoh (
Reign Of Assassins) has also been contracted to appear in the upcoming film.
The screenplay for
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon II will be written by John Fusco (
The Forbidden Kingdom,
Hidalgo). It will be based on Wang Du Lu's
Iron Knight, Silver Vase, book 5 in the Crane-Iron Pentalogy series.
Production of the sequel will begin in June in New Zealand.
