Kino Lorber has officially announced that it will release on Blu-ray acclaimed director Jia Zhangke's (
The World) latest film
A Touch of Sin (2013), starring Wu Jiang, Vivien Li, and Luo Lanshan. The release will be available for purchase on April 8th.
Writer and Director Jia Zhangke weaves together the stories of four recent violent incidents in China to create an exposition on contemporary life in that country. A Touch of Sin was winner of Best Screenplay at the Cannes Film Festival and was an Official Selection of the New York Film Festival.
The film opened theatrically in New York last fall at Lincoln Plaza Cinemas and IFC Center, and played in over 60 U.S. markets to universal acclaim. This controversial film was also banned from screening in China.
Official synopsis: An angry miner, enraged by widespread corruption in his village, decides to take justice into his own hands. A rootless migrant discovers the infinite possibilities of owning a firearm. A young receptionist, who dates a married man and works at a local sauna, is pushed beyond her limits by an abusive client. And a young factory worker goes from one discouraging job to the next, only to face increasingly degrading circumstances.

Director Jia Zhangke has won numerous awards for his work at film festivals all over the world, including the Wolfgang Staudte Award and Netpac Award for Xiao Wu (1997) at the Berlin Film Festival; the Best Film award for Zhantai (2000) at the Buenos Aires International Festival of Independent Cinema; the FIPRESCI/NETPAC Award - Special Mention for Ren xiao yao (2002) and the Young Cinema Award for Zhantai (2000) at the Singapore International Film Festival; the Critics' Award for Shijie (2004) at the Sao Paolo International Film Festival; the Dragons and Tigers Award for Xiao Wu (1997) at the Vancouver International Film Festival; the Venice Horizons Documentary Award for Wuyong (2007), the Golden Lion Award for Sanxia haoren (2006), and the Doc/It and Open Prize awards for Dong (2006) at the Venice Film Festival, among many others.
