Acclaimed director Patrice Chereau's lavish period film Queen Margot will be screened at the COLCOA Festival, which runs from April 21-28 at the Directors Guild of America in Hollywood. Pathé restored Queen Margot in 4K in 2013 and entrusted the work, under the direction of Chéreau, to Eclair Group for the image and L.E. Diapason for the sound.
The new 4K restoration of Queen Margot will be presented in association with Cohen Media Group. The film will also be released theatrically and in digital format in the U.S. later this year.
Earlier this month, the Film Society of Lincoln Center also screened the new 4K restoration of Queen Margot as part of its Patrice Chéreau: The Love That Dares series.
Official synopsis: Marguerite, Catholic sister of King Charles IX, is forced to marry the Protestant Henri de Naverre in order to reconcile her native France. However, the brutal murder of thousands of Protestants during the St. Bartholomew's Day celebrations throws the fragile peace into chaos, and when a wounded Protestant seeks refuge with Marguerite, she finds herself falling in love with a pronounced enemy. With a soundtrack by Goran Bregovic (Emir Kusturica's Underground).
COLCOA was created by the Franco-American Cultural Fund, a unique collaborative effort of the Directors Guild of America, the Motion Picture Association, the Writers Guild of America West, and France's Society of Authors, Composers and Publishers of Music (SACEM).
