Kino Lorber announced today that it has acquired Serge Bozon's third feature film Tip Top (2013), starring Isabelle Huppert, Sandrine Kiberlain, François Damiens, and Karole Rocher. This Cannes 2013, Director's Fortnight entry is the follow-up to Bozon's critically acclaimed La France, which Kino Lorber also distributed stateside.
Adapted from a story by writer Bill James (Harpur and Iles series), Tip Top stars Isabelle Huppert (Haneke's The Piano Teacher) and Sandrine Kiberlain (Mademoiselle Chambon), also distributed by Kino Lorber) as detectives Esther and Sally (respectively), now assigned to investigate the death of a former Algerian cop working as a police informant in the town of Villeneuve.

But Tip Top isn't a straightforward whodunnit; instead, it "evokes both vintage Jean-Luc Godard and the Coen brothers in its mix of deadpan comedy with genre-bursting stylistic ties" (Stephen Dalton, The Hollywood Reporter).
Writing in Variety, Chief Film Critic Scott Foundas noted that "Huppert and Kiberlain make for a wonderfully odd cop couple, suggesting a strange cross between Cagney & Lacey and Jacques Rivette's Celine and Julie."
After a worldwide premiere at last year's Cannes Film Festival, Tip Top will have its US Premiere at the upcoming edition of Rendez-Vous with French Cinema, an annual film festival focused on the best of new French cinema organized by the Film Society of Lincoln Center and UniFrance.
After its US premiere at Rendez-Vous, Tip Top will receive a theatrical release followed by a VOD/Digital rollout - before becoming available on DVD and Blu-ray at the end of the year. This deal was negotiated between Kino Lorber CEO Richard Lorber and Sébastien Chesneau, Rezo Films' Head of International Sales.
