Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on Blu-ray acclaimed director Steve McQueen's 12 Years a Slave (2013), starring Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Paul Giamatti, Paul Dano, and Benedict Cumberbatch. The release will be available for purchase online and in stores across the United States on March 4th.
12 Years a Slave has been nominated for nine Academy Awards, including Best Motion Picture of the Year, Best Achievement in Directing, and Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role.
Official synopsis: Based on an incredible true story of one man's fight for survival and freedom. In the pre-Civil War United States, Solomon Northup (Ejiofor), a free black man from upstate New York, is abducted and sold into slavery. Facing cruelty (personified by a malevolent slave owner, portrayed by Michael Fassbender), as well as unexpected kindnesses, Solomon struggles not only to stay alive, but to retain his dignity. In the twelfth year of his unforgettable odyssey, Solomon's chance meeting with a Canadian abolitionist (Pitt) will forever alter his life.
