Sony Pictures Classics has acquired the North American distribution rights to director János Szász's The Notebook a.k.a Le grand cahier (2013), starring András Gyémánt, László Gyémánt, Gyöngyvér Bognár, Ulrich Thomsen and Ulrich Matthes. Last year, the film won the prestigious Crystal Globe Award for Best Film at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
Hungary also selected The Notebook to represent it in the Foreign Language section of this year's Oscar awards.
Based on Agota Kristóf's bestselling novel of the same name, the film tells the story of two brothers who struggle to survive during WW2.
