The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has selected nine films that will enter the next stage of the voting process for the the 86th Academy Awards. The short list will be further narrowed to five films by invite-only committees in New York and Los Angeles. Finalists in all Oscar categories will be announced on January 16, 2014.
The 86th Academy Awards ceremony is scheduled for March 2, 2014, at the Dolby Theatre in the Hollywood district of Los Angeles, California.

An Episode in the Life of an Iron Picker, directed by Danis Tanovic.
3. Cambodia,
The Missing Picture, directed by Rithy Panh.

The Hunt, directed by Thomas Vinterberg.
5. Germany,
Two Lives, directed by Georg Maas.
6. Hong Kong,
The Grandmaster, directed by Wong Kar-Wai.
7. Hungary,
The Notebook, directed by János Szász.
8. Italy,
The Great Beauty, directed by Paolo Sorrentino.
9. Palestine,
Omar, directed by Hany Abu-Assad.
