British distributors Artificial Eye have sent us the official trailer for director Arnaud des Pallières's Michael Kohlhaas a.k.a Age of Uprising: The Legend of Michael Kohlhaas (2013), starring Mads Mikkelsen, Bruno Ganz, Denis Lavant, Sergi Lopez, Mélusine Mayance, and Delphine Chuillot. The film will open in theaters across the United Kingdom on January 3rd.
An epic drama set in 16th century France against a backdrop of feudalism in decline, Age of Uprising: The Legend of Michael Kohlhaas stars Mads Mikkelsen (The Hunt, A Royal Affair) as a well-to-do horse merchant who resorts to fanatical and violent extremes to obtain justice after a nobleman openly and illegally humiliates him by stealing two of his horses. Adapted from Heinrich von Kleist's novella, a classic of German Romanticism, Michael Kohlhaas was previously adapted for film in 1969 by Volker Schlöndorff and served as the inspiration for E.L. Doctorow's Ragtime.
Notes: In the U.S., Michael Kohlhaas will be distributed by Chicago-based Music Box Films. It will be Des Pallières' first film to have U.S. distribution.
