Goto, Island of Love and Other Walerian Borowczyk Films to be Released on Blu-ray

British distributors Arrow Video have announced that they will release on Blu-ray Walerian Borowczyk's Goto, Island of Love (1969) as well as select shorts thanks to a successful campaign to fund new restorations for these films.

Earlier this year, Arrow Video revealed that they are planning to release a box set with films directed by the Polish filmmaker in 2014.

The following note from Arrow Video was just released:

"We have reached our goal for our Borowczyk Kickstarter! A huge thank you to everyone who has helped us to achieve it.

We are already making plans to have the original Goto materials shipped to London so that we can begin work on the scanning and restoration.

As stated in our earlier update, any funds raised in excess of the 20,000 GBP target will be spent exclusively on further Borowczyk transfers and restorations.

Five of the short films that are to be included in the box set are currently only available in standard definition: Les Astronautes (Astronauts, 1959), Une collection particulière (A Private Collection, 1972), Escargot de Vénus (Venus on the Half Shell, 1975), L'Amour monstre de tous les temps (The Greatest Love of All Time, 1978) and Scherzo infernal (1984).

Any additional funds raised will be spent on transferring and restoring these titles to high definition.

Les Astronautes was Borowczyk's first film to be made in France, and his one and only collaboration with the late, great Chris Marker.

Une collection particulière is a tour through Borowczyk's collection of antique erotica that was originally intended to be an episode of Contes immoraux (Immoral Tales, 1974).

Escargot de Vénus is a brief documentary on the erotic snail drawings of Bona de Mandiargues.

L'Amour monstre de tous les temps is an award winning, hectically spliced 'slice in the life' style documentary featuring the Serbian surrealist Ljuba hard at work painting one of his baroque canvases.

Then there is Scherzo Infernal, Borowczyk's final animation, which not only tells the story of devils and angels, but features a great electronic score by the legendary Bernard Parmegiani."
