British distributors Artificial Eye have informed us that they will release on Blu-ray acclaimed Danish director Lars von Trier's
Breaking the Waves (1996) and Abdellatif Kechiche's
Couscous a.k.a
The Secret of the Grain (2007). The two releases will be available for purchase online and n shops across the United Kingdom in March.
Breaking the Waves
In 1970's Scotland, young Bess meets and falls in love with oil rig worker Jan. Despite opposition they marry, and when Jan returns to the rigs Bess counts the days until his return. After Jan is paralysed in an accident, he urges Bess to take a lover and relate their sexual acts to him. The soundtrack includes music by David Bowie and T-Rex. Starring Emily Watson, Stellan Skarsgård, Jean-Marc Barr, Katrin Cartlidge, and Udo Kier. Street date: March 10th.
Couscous
French ensemble piece focussing on the lives of an immigrant community in the south of France. Slimane Beiji (Habib Boufares) is a sixty-year-old shipyard worker who dreams of one day giving up his job and opening up his own couscous restaurant. Recently divorced, but obliged to stay close to his family, Slimane's hopes for the restaurant seem to be nothing more than a pipedream after he is suddenly laid-off from the docks. Still dreaming and talking of his plans with his family whenever they meet, the restaurant soon becomes a dream that the whole family can relate to, assuming a symbolic importance in their efforts to make a better life for themselves. Street date: March 17th.
