French label Gaumont will bring to Blu-ray director Max Ophüls'
Le Plaisir (1952), starring Jean Gabin, Danielle Darrieux, Simone Simon, Madeleine Renaud, and Pierre Brasseur. The release will be available for purchase in France on February 19th.
Max Ophüls' portmanteau drama features his trademark intricate camera movement, and is said to be one of Jean-Luc Godard's favourite films. Three stories revolve around the film's titular theme: pleasure. In 'Le Masque', an old man dons a magic mask and becomes young again. In 'La Maison Tellier', a prostitute enjoys a moment of true romance, whilst in 'Le Modèle', an artist's model marries the man who saves her from suicide.
