For the week that ended on November 17th, Warner Home Entertainment's Man of Steel took the number-one spot on both the Blu-ray-only and overall package media charts. This gritty retelling of the Superman story - the result of a partnership between 300 director Zach Snyder and The Dark Knight Trilogy architects David Goyer & Christopher Nolan - did solid business for the studio this past summer. Though its critical notices weren't great (its Metacritic score is 55%) and its $291-million domestic gross only just recouped its estimated production budget of $225 million, the film's additional foreign totals of over $371 million made for a decent-sized hit. The superhero blockbuster also had a robust Blu-ray market share of 68%.

The second-place seller on the Blu-ray-only and overall package media charts, DreamWorks' CGI-comedy Turbo, had a more difficult experience in theaters. Like Man of Steel, Turbo received mediocre reviews - currently, it has a Metacritic score of 58% - but while its foreign gross of $194 million was reasonable, it made just under $83 million in North America, a figure well below its $135 million production budget. Turbo sold 28% as many Blu-rays as Man of Steel - and had an HD market share of 43% - and 45% as many total units.

Finally, Pixar and Walt Disney Home Entertainment's Monsters University rounded out the top three spots on the Blu-ray-only and overall package media sales charts. This prequel to the 2001 animated favorite Monsters, Inc. has remained at the top of the different media charts since its small-screen release in October, and that success comes at the heels of its strong theatrical performance last summer; despite an average Metacritic score of 65%, Monsters University grossed over $743 million worldwide. On the Blu-ray-only list, Monsters University sold 8% as many discs as Man of Steel (it also had a 36% HD market share), and on the overall package media chart, the Pixar feature sold 14% as many total units as the Superman reboot.
