Drafthouse Films and Cinedigm have acquired the North American distribution rights to Allison Berg and Frank Keraudre's documentary film The Dog (2013). Earlier this year, the film had its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
The distributors plan to have the film in U.S. theaters in the summer of 2014.
Synopsis (courtesy of TIFF): An astonishing documentary portrait of the late John Wojtowicz, whose attempted robbery of a Brooklyn bank to finance his male lover's sex-reassignment surgery was the real-life inspiration for the classic Al Pacino film Dog Day Afternoon.
