For the week that ended on October 27th, New Line and Warner Home Entertainment's The Conjuring took the top spot on both the Blu-ray-only and overall package media charts. This supernatural chiller was one of 2013's biggest surprise hits - in additional to garnering respectable critical notices, the film, which had a modest production budget of $20 million, grossed over $313 million worldwide. On home media, The Conjuring had an HD market share of 33%.

Next up on the Blu-ray-only list was another Warner title, the blockbuster Pacific Rim. Director Guillermo Del Toro's sci-fi epic struggled to find mainstream success with domestic audiences this summer; the film, which had an estimated production budget of over $190 million, grossed only $101 million stateside, though the film performed much better in international markets, where it made over $305 million. It also managed a Metacritic score of 64%. In its second week of sales, Pacific Rim sold 73% as many Blu-rays as The Conjuring (and had an HD market share of 49%) and 49% as many total units.

However, regarding the overall package media list, there Pacific Rim dropped to number three behind Twentieth Century Fox's The Heat, which took the number-two position on that chart and the number-three spot on the Blu-ray-only list. A raunchy action-comedy from Bridesmaids collaborators Paul Feig and Melissa McCarthy, The Heat proved one of last summer's most enduring box-office favorites, earning over $228 million worldwide on top of a $43 million budget. On the Blu-ray-only chart, The Heat sold 69% as many Blu-rays as The Conjuring and had an HD market share of 29%; on the overall package media chart, it sold 80% as many units as that haunted-house thriller.
