For the week that ended on October 20th, Warner Home Entertainment's Pacific Rim scored the top sales figures on the Blu-ray-only chart. Director Guillermo Del Toro's sci-fi epic struggled to find mainstream success with domestic audiences this summer; the film, which had an estimated production budget of over $190 million, grossed only $101 million stateside (though, it must be noted, the film performed much stronger in international markets, where it made over $305 million) and garnered a Metacritic score of 64%. Pacific Rim had an especially strong Blu-ray showing, as 60% of its sales came from the HD format.

However, on the overall package media list, Pacific Rim dropped to number two, where it sold 78% as many units as another new release: Twentieth Century Fox's The Heat, which took the number one position on that chart. A raunchy action-comedy from Bridesmaids collaborators Paul Feig and Melissa McCarthy, The Heat proved one of summer 2013's most enduring box-office favorites, earning over $159 million domestically on top of a $43 million budget. On the Blu-ray-only chart, The Heat sold 70% as many Blu-rays as Pacific Rim and had an HD market share of 33%.

Finally, Disney's The Little Mermaid rounded out the top three on the Blu-ray-only media list. The 1989 animated classic revitalized Disney's feature animation department and proved an enduring success for the studio - the film made over $211 million worldwide (almost $400 million, when adjusted for inflation) and continues to attract new fans on the home media platform. One of the fall's most anticipated HD titles, this new Little Mermaid Blu-ray had an HD market share of 100% and sold 25% as many discs as Pacific Rim. Regarding the overall package media list, where The Little Mermaid came in at fifth place (behind The Croods and The Hangover: Part III, respectively), the Disney favorite sold 12% as many total units as The Heat.
