For the week that ended on October 13th, Disney again scored the top figures on the Blu-ray media chart its release of The Little Mermaid. The 1989 animated classic revitalized Disney's feature animation department and proved an enduring success for the studio - the film made over $211 million worldwide (almost $400 million, when adjusted for inflation) and continues to attract new fans on the home media platform. One of the fall's most anticipated HD titles, this new Little Mermaid Blu-ray dominated the Blu-ray-only chart and scored an HD market share of 100%.

However, on the overall package media list, The Little Mermaid dropped to number four, where it sold 54% as many units as a new release: Warner Bros' The Hangover: Part III, which took the number one position on that chart. The third (and ostensibly final) picture in the Hangover series, this raunchy comedy was a box-office success (it grossed over $351 million worldwide) despite low critical notices - while the first Hangover drew a solid Metacritic rating of 73%, the best Part III could muster was a 30% Metacritic rating. On the Blu-ray-only chart, The Hangover: Part III sold 82% as many Blu-rays as The Little Mermaid and had an HD market share of 44%.

Finally, Sony Pictures' After Earth filled out the top three spots on the Blu-ray-only and overall package media lists. An expensive - its estimated production budget was $130 million - sci-fi epic, After Earth proved to be a commercial and critical failure for star Will Smith and director M. Night Shyamalan; the film made only $60.5 million domestically (though its foreign take was a far more impressive $183 million) and garnered a Metacritic rating of 33%. After Earth sold 66% as many Blu-rays as The Little Mermaid (its Blu-ray market share was 46%) and 77% as many total units as The Hangover: Part III.
