For the week that ended on October 6th, Disney scored the top figures on the Blu-ray media chart its release of The Little Mermaid. This 1989 animated classic revitalized Disney's feature animation department and proved an enduring success for the studio - the film made over $211 million worldwide (almost $400 million, when adjusted for inflation) and continues to attract new fans on the home media platform. This new Little Mermaid Blu-ray has been one of the fall's most anticipated HD titles, so it's no surprise it dominated the Blu-ray-only chart and scored an HD market share of 100%.

Next on the Blu-ray-only rankings was another animated picture, Fox Home Entertainment's The Croods. A CGI-comedy about a caveman family searching for a new home, The Croods overcame mediocre critical notices (its Metacritic rating was 55%) to find global commercial success; the film grossed over $585 million worldwide on top of its $135-million production budget. This Nicolas Cage-voiced family entry sold 63% as many Blu-rays as The Little Mermaid and had a Blu-ray market share of 41%. On the overall package media list, The Croods actually came in first place, beating The Little Mermaid, which sold 65% as many total units as The Croods.

Finally, Disney and Marvel Studios' Iron Man 3 rounded out the top three spots on the Blu-ray-only and overall package media lists. Bolstered by Robert Downey Jr.'s iconic performance in the title role, this action-comedy franchise has dominated the box-office since the first film's 2008 premiere, and Iron Man 3 is no exception. Despite a large production budget of $200 million, the third installment grossed over $1.2 billion worldwide. In addition to maintaining its position in the top three spots on the home media markets, Iron Man 3 sold 28% as many Blu-rays as The Little Mermaid (its Blu-ray market share was 53%) and 35% as many total units as The Croods.
